Breakthrough is an exciting six-year journey that starts in sixth grade and ends when students enter college. Here is a snapshot of how the program supports students through each of the six years.
6th Grade
- Spring: Welcome to Breakthrough, attend orientation.
- Summer: Attend six-week session at Santa Fe Preparatory School
7th Grade
- Fall/Spring: After-school classes on Thursdays and Saturday special events
- Summer: Attend six-week session at Santa Fe Preparatory School
8th Grade
- Fall/Spring: After-school classes on Thursdays and Saturday special events
- Fall/Spring: High School Options Night
- Summer: Return to Breakthrough College Bound for a 2-week session
9th Grade
- High School Re-Orientation
- Register for college prep classes for freshman year
- Saturday events during school year
- Summer: Return to Breakthrough College Bound for a 1-week session
10th Grade
- Introductions to summer camps/internships/community service
- Take the PSAT (practice college entrance test)
- College visits
- Summer: Return to Breakthrough College Bound for a 1-week session
11th Grade
- Prep for the ACT (college entrance test)
- Meet with college counselor
- Colorado Trip (visit 3 college campuses in Colorado)
- Set up summer internship/community service
- Summer: Return to Breakthrough College Bound for a 2-week session
12th Grade
- Apply to college!
- Apply for financial aid and scholarships
- Set up summer internship/community service
Then, it’s off to college!
